Virtual Baby Shower Ideas

Virtual Baby Shower Ideas to still celebrate a new baby during a pandemic or for guests that cannot travel

There are so many reasons you might need to host a virtual baby shower – or at least include some guests virtually due to personal circumstances. Here are our ideas to help keep celebrating right now through our current coronavirus pandemic, which might make it difficult for our elderly and immuno-compromised loved ones to safely attend in the next few months. Life is continuing, and one of the best ways to keeps spirits lifted is to adapt and keep doing as many things that we love as possible – we want to stay close during a pandemic. These ideas work well for both a little boy or girl and gender-neutral baby showers and will have home-bound guests smiling.

Host your party on a digital platform like Zoom

These services are great to use for a virtual party. Please be aware that while many offer limited services with a FREE account, some services are being downgraded because of current demand. In particular, due to increased demand, Zoom has a message posted that dial-in by phone audio conferencing capabilities may be temporarily removed from your free Basic account. During this time, they strongly recommend using our computer audio capabilities. If you upgrade to a paid subscription, you would have other audio options.

See this tutorial on how to use Zoom before your party so you are prepared. You can even send this link to your guests as well, so everyone can become comfortable with the platform before the party.

Decorate your Virtual Baby Shower Backdrop

Being creative and decorating your backdrop (ask your guests to all decorate theirs!) can be such fun and be a great safe indoor activity. You can use backdrop fringes, balloon arches, banners, and photo props to really have a fun time online together. Decorating is half the fun of the party, isn’t it?

Mail Out Party Packs to Your Guests

Send out to each guest an Oh Baby Advice Card, a dropbox guest book heart and a fun party favor with instructions for participating in the virtual baby shower. Send each guest a set of ‘Oh Baby glasses” or a photo prop to have fun at home! You can even print out our Baby Shower Bingo cards and have the guest of honor open guests while the guest play along.

You might even want to include a balloon, a plate, napkin or another item so that they can have everything they need to participate in the virtual party!

Have the Parent’s To Be Register for a Registry Online

Using a service like Amazon’s virtual baby shower gift registry, register for gifts online and have them delivered right to their home. You can still open gifts virtually using FaceTime or Zoom!

Our new normal is going to take some adjusting to, but that doesn’t mean our celebrating has to stop – it’s just going to look different for a little while. You can include guests that can’t safely join you due to restrictions, health or safety, and have a wonderful time together virtually!
