Here we will share all the details of what we did to create this amazing hockey gender reveal party for my daughter and son-in-law and my FIRST grandbaby. From the color palette and decorations to the food and beverage, we’ve got you covered.

Neutral Color Palette and Dress Code

To create a neutral and chic atmosphere, we decided to use a color palette of grey, white, ivory, silver, and gold. We asked our guests to wear neutral colors to match the theme and create a cohesive look for the gender reveal party.

Hockey Pucks or Petals Decorations

To bring the Pucks or Petals theme to life, we used a combination of hockey and floral decorations. We created a beautiful Boho Neutral Balloon Garland to decorate the inside of the venue. The garland was made up of white, ivory, and grey balloons, with touches of gold to add a pop of color. We also added a custom gender reveal welcome sign to greet our guests and set the tone for the party.

Themed Food and Beverages

No party is complete without delicious food and drinks. For this gender reveal party, we created a major charcuterie display. The display included charcuterie veggies cups with dip at the bottom, charcuterie meat and cheese trays, dessert charcuterie boards, and a shrimp cocktail tray. The charcuterie boards were adorned with fresh fruits, nuts, and a variety of cheeses and meats, providing a variety of options for all guests to enjoy. Notice the little chamomile flowers (which are food safe, important!) are tucked around and on the boards.

Charcuterie cups had a dab of veggie dip in the bottom of each, then cut veggies, sprigs of fresh thyme and our pearl charcuterie picks with salami roses and cheese moons.

In keeping with the hockey theme of our gender reveal, we created these 'Daddy Slipped One Past the Goalie" napkins for the charcuterie table.

Our pearl table runner was perfect on top of our linen tablecloth from the shop as the table display.

Our icebreaker activity was the “Pucks or Petals” old wives tales gender guess station. We printed out our sign and old wives’ tales hints, and guests selected a sticker with either ‘boy’ or ‘girl’ once they read thru what our mama said she experienced for each wives tale.

To keep our guests warm, we set up a hot cocoa bar. However, the February day turned out to be warm, so we switched out the hot cocoa for ice-cold drinks. We served a variety of non-alcoholic beverages, including lemonade and lemon-infused water.

The Big Hockey Gender Reveal

The most anticipated part of any gender reveal party is the actual reveal. For this theme, we decided to use powder-filled hockey pucks. We chose two pucks, one filled with blue powder for a boy and one filled with pink powder for a girl – and gave them to Jack’s sister who had the sealed results from the ultrasound appointment. They asked her to put out the puck that was for the right gender. The expectant dad, Jacl shot the pucks toward a wood backdrop, and when the puck hit the wood, the powder was released, revealing the baby’s gender.

I was "Team Boy" pretty much from the beginning of Kate's pregnancy, but I did see a "part" on an ultrasound accidentally that made me validate my suspicion!

Pucks or Petals Hockey Gender Reveal Desserts

For dessert, we made chocolate-covered Oreos (we actually used the gluten-free candy-cane Jo-Jos from Trader Joe’s!) that looked like little hockey pucks. We always do gluten free options accommodate any dietary restrictions (with so many Celiacs in the family!) The pucks were arranged on a cake stand and adorned with springs of chamomile flowers, to match the party’s theme. They were a hit among our guests, and everyone loved the delicious and creative dessert. We tucked our ‘petal’ lollipops from Sweet Caroline Confections (find them on Etsy!) in glass containers to create little ‘bouquets.”
